Join Project Linus for the 2016 Mystery Quilt Challenge Benefitting Children in Need!

Here at Fat Quarter Shop we LOVE Project Linus! In case you haven't heard about this fantastic organization, Project Linus is a non-profit that provides security, warmth, and comfort to seriously ill, traumatized, and at-risk children.  How do they do this? With handmade blankets and quilts!

These blankets, made by awesome volunteers called "blanketeers", are given to children in hospitals and shelters, and to child clients of social service agencies. As quilters we know that quilts provide comfort and are a tangible way to wrap someone in love - that's what Project Linus is all about!

Project Linus has Chapters in all 50 of the United States, and "blanketeers" who donate their quilts or afghans are given the opportunity to use their talents in a very rewarding way. Plus, what could be better than lending a hand to a child in need by doing something you already love?!

There are many ways to donate to Project Linus, and to get involved. Today we're sharing an invitation from Project Linus to participate in their 2016 Mystery Quilt Challenge! This charitable quilt challenge, which runs over 7 weeks, is a super fun way to support Project Linus! You may read all about this special event and register HERE!

We're sending this Lattice Quilt that Kimberly made to Project Linus in the hopes that it will bring comfort and security to a little one in need. We hope that each of you will help support this worthwhile cause. Let's use our quilting skills and abilities to help spread love and positivity! Please sign up for the 2016 Mystery Quilt Challenge TODAY!

Whether your child is in elementary school or you're the student and are working on an advanced degree, there's something so fun about stocking up on pens, pencils and all the other goodies that will help make the year a success.

Today we're sharing a great Back to School project with you - Pencil Bags! Remember those fabulous Simple Zipper Bags from Sherri McConnell? The one we made an awesome video tutorial about? Well it's time to tweak those bags a bit and create classroom-worthy Pencil Bags that will earn an A+! (This pug-tastic bag - above - was made with this fabric from the Joie de Vivre collection from Art Gallery Fabrics)
This tractor Pencil Bag was made with this Farm Fresh fabric by Dear Stella Fabrics!

Personalized = FUN!

I made these super sweet Pencil Bags for my four children using fabrics I knew they'd love!  These bags are simple to stitch up, and Fat Quarter Shop has all the supplies you need!
You're sure to ace this Back to School project - especially since our video tutorial shows you how-to, every step of the way.  Here's a link to the original blog post about these awesome zipper bags, which includes fabric requirements and supplies needed at the bottom of the post.  You'll find zippers here!

These darling zipper bags make great teacher gifts, too, so why not stitch up some extras while you're at it? You'll have a personalized gift ready for Christmas or Teacher Appreciation Day. Just tuck a Starbucks gift card or some candy inside, and the recipient will be delighted!
This colorful crayon Pencil Bag was made with Colorfully Creative
fabric from Riley Blake Designs

We hope you enjoy making these fun and functional Pencil Bags for the student in your life. Please share your Pencil Bags with us on social media using the hashtags #fqsfun and #simplezipperbag. Happy Quilting!
